The limits of a service should be clear before you rely on it.

1. About The Companion

The Companion is a digital companion designed to be with someone through one part of life, one small step at a time.

It can help you pause, look more clearly at what you are facing, work through options, or take a step you have already chosen.

The Companion is not a person, a medical or clinical service, therapy, a diagnostic service, legal advice, or an emergency service.

Using The Companion does not create a doctor-patient, psychologist-client, lawyer-client, or similar professional relationship.

2. Your decisions remain yours

The Companion can help you look at a situation from more than one angle, but it does not take responsibility for your life or your decisions.

You decide whether to use any suggestion, option, draft message, next step, or information in the real world. The Companion does not guarantee that a particular decision will lead to a particular outcome.

If a decision carries medical, legal, financial, safety, or other serious consequences that call for professional judgment, consider seeking help from someone qualified in that field.

3. Safety and emergencies

The Companion is not a substitute for emergency services.

If you or someone else may be in immediate danger, there is a medical emergency, there is a threat of violence, or the situation needs urgent action, do not wait for a conversation with The Companion to become enough.

Contact the relevant emergency service, a healthcare facility, or someone who can be physically present and provide real help. Emergency information and routes to help are available on the Emergency Help page.

When there are signs of increasing safety risk, The Companion may respond more directly and focus more narrowly on safety. The Safety page explains this further.

4. The Companion can be wrong

The Companion uses computational systems and language models to produce some of its responses. These systems can misunderstand context, leave out important information, or produce incorrect information.

Do not treat a response from The Companion as something that never needs to be checked, especially when the consequences are serious.

If something does not seem right, you can ignore it, correct it, or check another source.

5. Personal and reasonable use

The Companion is intended primarily for personal use in ordinary human conversation. We do not want normal use to feel like you have to count every sentence you write.

Automated use, mass use, scraping, unusually high-volume testing, resource abuse, or other patterns that fall substantially outside personal use may be limited.

These limits are meant to keep the service safe and available, not to penalize ordinary personal use.

6. Uses that are not allowed

You may not use The Companion to gain unauthorized access to systems or data; disrupt, damage, overload, or attempt to take control of service infrastructure; unlawfully bypass security, authentication, rate limits, or other technical restrictions; use the service for unlawful activity; distribute malware or attack other users or systems; impersonate another person for fraud; or use the service in a way that materially harms The Companion or other users.

Good-faith security testing may only be carried out with appropriate permission in advance.

7. Access and security

Depending on the stage of the service, The Companion may use accounts, pseudonymous identities, installation identities, or other access mechanisms.

If you receive credentials, codes, authentication links, or another private access mechanism, you are responsible for keeping them from being used by someone else without permission.

Never send passwords, PINs, one-time passwords, authentication codes, full payment card numbers, or other access secrets through a conversation with The Companion. If you believe your access has been misused, contact us.

8. What you write remains yours

You do not give up ownership of your stories, writing, or personal material simply by using them with The Companion.

When you submit material to the service, you give the system limited permission to process it only as needed to provide the service, maintain permitted continuity, protect safety and system integrity, and meet applicable legal obligations.

That permission is not permission to turn your private life into advertising inventory.

9. Privacy

Privacy is not an extra feature added around the service. The Companion is designed to limit the data it collects and retains to what is genuinely needed to operate.

These Terms do not replace the Privacy Policy. If you want to understand how conversations, operational data, and other information are handled, read the Privacy page.

If a general statement in these Terms conflicts with a more specific provision about data handling in the Privacy Policy, the more specific privacy provision should be treated as the primary reference for that issue, to the extent permitted by applicable law.

10. Third-party services

Some parts of The Companion may depend on third-party providers, including language-model providers, infrastructure, databases, app distribution, or payment processing.

Using third parties does not remove The Companion's responsibility to explain, in a reasonable way, how those services relate to the user experience. However, the availability or failure of a third-party system may be outside The Companion's direct control.

When personal information needs to be processed by a third party, it remains subject to the boundaries described in the Privacy Policy and the technical arrangements in place.

11. Free trial and membership

The Companion may offer a free trial and paid membership.

Under the current commercial structure, the first 7 days are free and no payment card is required.

When the trial ends, you decide whether you want to continue. Current membership options are shown on the Pricing page.

The price, access period, and important transaction information must be shown before a payment is completed.

12. Payments and renewal

At the initial launch stage, membership does not renew automatically.

The end of a trial or membership period does not authorize The Companion to take another payment.

Failed payments, duplicate charges, refunds, price changes, unrecognized transactions, and other payment matters are explained in more detail in the Payments & Cancellation Policy.

If the Payments Policy contains a more specific rule about a payment issue, that specific rule applies to the payment issue to the extent permitted by law.

13. Refunds and unusual circumstances

Stopping use of the service does not automatically create a right to a refund.

However, duplicate charges, failure to provide a paid service because of a system error, verifiable transaction errors, legal obligations, and other relevant circumstances may be reviewed.

We do not want every real-world situation to be decided only by an automatic rule.

14. Service availability

We work to keep The Companion available and functioning properly. Even so, access may be affected by maintenance, network problems, third-party failures, software errors, system changes, or other disruptions.

We do not promise uninterrupted availability at all times.

If a paid service cannot be provided because of circumstances on The Companion's side, a reasonable resolution for the part of the service that was not provided will be considered under the Payments Policy and applicable law.

15. Changes to the service

The Companion will continue to develop. Features may be added, improved, replaced, or discontinued when needed for safety, quality, operational sustainability, changes in technology, or product development.

A change must not be used as a reason to quietly take away something a user has already materially paid for.

If a change materially affects an active paid service, its effect should be handled reasonably.

16. Suspending or ending access

Access may be limited or ended when there is a serious breach of these Terms, misuse of the system, a security threat, unlawful use, or another circumstance that reasonably requires action to protect the service or other users.

When circumstances allow, the user will be given a reasonable explanation for the restriction.

Where security, fraud, serious abuse, or a legal obligation requires immediate action, access may be restricted without advance notice.

Suspending access does not remove any user right that cannot legally be waived.

17. The Companion's intellectual property

The Companion name, visual identity, design, software, documentation, website text, service structure, and other materials created for The Companion may be protected by intellectual property rights.

Using the service does not transfer ownership of those assets to you.

You may use the service for its intended personal purposes, but you do not receive a right to copy, resell, distribute, or exploit The Companion's assets beyond what is allowed by law or by written permission from the rights holder.

Nothing in this section takes away rights you continue to hold in your own material.

18. No promise of a particular outcome

The Companion does not promise that using the service will solve a problem, improve mental health, save a relationship, produce the right decision, increase income, or create any particular change in someone's life.

The value of the service is in the support it provides, not in a promise that your life will reach a particular outcome.

19. Responsibility

Technology has limits.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, The Companion is not responsible for loss that arises solely because a user treats a system response as a substitute for professional judgment, ignores a clear safety warning, uses the service for a prohibited purpose, or relies on a third-party service outside The Companion's reasonable control.

These Terms are not intended to exclude any responsibility that cannot legally be excluded, including mandatory rights granted to users under applicable law.

Nothing in these Terms should be read as permission for The Companion to act in bad faith or avoid a legal responsibility that it is required to meet.

20. Consumer protection

These Terms are not intended to reduce any mandatory consumer rights that apply to you.

If a provision in these Terms conflicts with a right that cannot legally be waived, the law continues to apply.

21. Changes to these Terms

These Terms may be updated as The Companion develops, the law changes, safety needs change, operations change, or the service changes.

The date of the latest version will be shown on this page.

If a change materially affects user rights or obligations, we will try to give reasonable notice before it takes effect when circumstances allow.

Changes to these Terms must not be used to retroactively change a price or access period that has already been paid for.

22. Resolving problems and disputes

If something goes wrong, we encourage you to contact The Companion first so the actual circumstances can be reviewed. Not every problem needs to become a formal dispute.

Concerns about payments, access, privacy, or delivery of the service can be raised through the Contact channel.

If the issue cannot be resolved, each party keeps any right it has to use dispute-resolution mechanisms available under applicable law.

23. Governing law and the operator

The Companion is provided by the legal entity identified within the service. That identity is shown so users know which entity is responsible for operating the service, handling payments, protecting data, and carrying out other legal obligations.

The Companion is operated by PT Satu Langkah Satu Waktu, a legal entity established under the laws of the Republic of Indonesia and domiciled in Denpasar, Bali.

These Terms and your use of The Companion are governed by the laws of the Republic of Indonesia, without limiting any mandatory legal protections that apply to you.

User rights under consumer-protection law and other applicable legislation remain respected. The Contact channel is available for problems and situations that require human review.

24. If one provision cannot be enforced

If any part of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent legally possible.

An unenforceable provision must not be interpreted more broadly in order to remove a user right granted by law.

We do not ask users to send passwords, PINs, one-time passwords, payment credentials, or private conversation content that is not needed to resolve the issue.
